Best Easter Break Getaways in and from the UK

Girls Who Travel | Easter Break

There is something about Easter breaks that feel like the first real breath of the year. The light changes. The evenings stretch out. Suddenly you’re craving fresh air, new scenerey, and the group chat finally turns into confirmed plans instead of voice notes saying “let’s plan something soon”.

To me, Easter is more than a bank holiday. It’s a permission slip to pause. To step out of routine and into somewhere that feels different. Four days can feel surprisingly transformative when you choose the right destination.

If you are deciding where to go, here are my top Easter breaks you should be booking for a stylish, memory making spring escape.

Cornwall — Sea Air and Soft Spring Light

Girls Who Travel | Easter Break UK

When it comes to Easter breaks in the UK, coastal escapes are always top tier. Cornwall may feel overrated but in spring, I actually think it feels cinematic in the best way.

Base yourself in St Ives for whitewashed cottages and turquoise water or choose Padstow for harbour views and long seafood lunches while you wait for the sunset. Spring here is quieter than summer. The beaches feel expansive. The coastal paths are lined with wildflowers. You can walk for miles with only the sound of waves and your companion debating dinner plans.

Start your mornings with a bakery run and take your coffee to the beach. During the afternoons, I recommend browsing independent galleries and shops. And if you’re feeling brave, an Easter morning sea swim. You’ll question your life choices for approximately thirty seconds and then feel incredible. End the day with a good pub grub and that’s your day sorted.

Among Easter breaks in the UK that Brits return to year after year, Cornwall remains a classic for good reason.

Bath — Spa Energy and Georgian Elegance

Girls Who Travel | Easter Break UK

If your idea of a good Easter break style includes robes, prosecco and beautifully lit streets, Bath is calling.

The honey coloured Georgian architecture and the city’s compact size makes it ideal for a relaxed long weekend. You can wander without rushing, popping into local boutiques and cosy cafés as you go.

A highlight is the rooftop pool at Thermae Bath Spa. You’ll float in warm mineral rich water while looking out across historic rooftops, It feels indulgent in the best way. Easter is ideal because you avoid peak summer crowds but still enjoy mild weather.

Add afternoon tea, a countryside walk just beyond the city and a dinner where everyone dresses up slightly more than necessary. It is Easter after all. Bath is perfect if you want restoration with a side of aesthetic.

The Lake District — Fresh Air and Full Reset

Girls Who Travel | Easter Break UK

If the East break you’re craving for is less about outfits and more about oxygen. Enter the Lake District.

Spring transforms this landscape. Daffodils bloom along the lakes. Lambs appear in fields like they have been placed there purely for your photographs. The air feels crisp in the morning and golden by late afternoon.

When I went, I stayed at Windermere for classic lake views. You can also try Keswick if you prefer access to proper hikes. I spent my days walking scenic trails, hiring a boat, or simply sitting by the water with snacks from a local farm shop.

If you’re with a group, you can bond over tackling a hill together, beig slightly underprepared but fully committed. The group selfies at the top will be chaotic but the sense of achievement will be very real.

As far as Easter breaks in the UK go, this one wil leave you feeling mentally clearer and physically energised. The Lake District is hard to beat.

York — Storybook Streets and Cosy Evenings

Girls Who Travel | Easter Break UK

If you love a city with character, York delivers charm in abundance.

The cobbled Shambles feel almost magical. The ancient city walls offer sweeping views across rooftops. A visit to York Minster during Easter weekend adds to the atmosphere and history, even if you are simply admiring the architecture.

York is compact, which makes it ideal for a three or four day escape. I recommend visiting without a strict itinerary. If you want to stop for cake, just because it is Easter, you should absolutely go for it. Find a cosy wine bar for late evening conversations that will make you stay out longer than you have planned.

Among Easter breaks, people sometimes overlook in favour of bigger cities, but York offers intimacy and warmth that is perfect for spring.

The Cotswolds — Quintessential English Spring

Girls Who Travel | Easter Break UK

If you ask me, only few places capture the softness of the season like the Cotswolds.

With its rolling green hills, stone cottages, and country pubs with gardens reopening for the year, it creates a setting that feels effortlessly romantic. My suggestion is to either stay in Bourton on the Water or Stow on the Wold where you can spend your days wandering between villages.

Stop at farm shops, order the Sunday roast, and pretend you’re scouting locations for your future countryside life. Unless you already live in the countryside, then you have been blessed by the Gods, I guess!

This is one of the gentlest Easter breaks in the UK you can choose. There is no pressure to see everything. Just fresh air, conversation and slower mornings. Ideal for smaller groups or even a solo traveller who wants quiet beauty and space to think.

Edinburgh — Culture and a Little Drama

Girls Who Travel | Easter Break UK

If you or your group thrives on energy and edge, Edinburgh makes an unforgettable choice.

My ideal day would be climbing up Arthur’s Seat for panoramic views across the city, then wandering the Royal Mile, exploring Edinburgh Castle, and then rewarding myself with dinner somewhere lively.

Easter sits in a shoulder season sweet spot here. The city feels vibrant but not overwhelmingly busy. You can enjoy the culture and nightlife without peak summer crowds.

Edinburgh is perfect for you if you want days filled with history and evenings filled with laughter over good food and beer. When comparing Easter breaks city options, this one consistently stands out.

Rome — Sunshine and Significance

Girls Who Travel | Easter Break UK

If you are open to travelling slightly further, Easter breaks don’t have to be limited in the UK. You can spend your Easter break abroad for only an hour or two of flying time.

Rome during Easter is atmospheric and unforgettable. The energy around St Peter’s Basilica during Holy Week is powerful, whether you are visiting for faith, culture or curiosity. As a Catholic, my family and I love visiting The Vatican during Easter.

Beyond that, spring is one of the best times to explore the Colosseum without the intensity of summer heat. You can stroll through piazzas, order gelato mid afternoon, and sit outside long into the evening.

Rome suits people who want culture, sunshine, and exceptional food wrapped into one beautiful long weekend. Sign me up!

Amsterdam — Tulips and Canal Strolls

Girls Who Travel | Easter Break UK

Spring and Amsterdam are a perfect pairing.

Easter often aligns with tulip season, which means bursts of colour across parks and flower markets. The canals reflect rows of narrow houses. Cafés spill onto pavements as the city shakes off winter.

It’s the perfect place to of course, hire bikes, explore museums or simply walk aimlessly without a strict plan. Amsterdam is small enough to feel manageable but varied enough to keep things interesting.

For Easter breaks from the UK, it’s a place you can reach within a short flight.

Book The Trip

My advice is to book early because Easter fills up quickly. Allow extra travel time. Pack layers because British (and Dutch!) spring likes to surprise us. You may get more lucky with packing lighter stuff for Rome.

Four days can shift your perspective more than you expect. So open the group chat. Send the link. And book the trip.
