The best way to describe this spot is exactly what they put on their website: “ we delight in creating unexpected dishes, often inspired by Adian and Indian flavors, and always made with love.” I would not have put this better myself. Located in North Charleston, this Chinese BBQ restaurant has quickly become a favorite of mine. Recently featured on Bon Appetit’s Best New Restaurants 2024 list, it’s the sister restaurant to the popular Jackrabbit Filly. Everything on the menu is truly delicious, but the shrimp toast and ribs are absolute standouts. Don’t just walk, run to this amazing spot!

For those seeking a taste of authentic Southern cuisine, venture beyond downtown Charleston to Summerville. A beloved local institution for over four decades, this restaurant offers a timeless dining experience, serving up classic Southern dishes that have delighted generations of patrons, including myself.
This authentic, family-style Chinese restaurant recently relocated from West Ashley to North Charleston to accommodate its growing popularity. While offering a range of familiar favorites, the menu also features a selection of more adventurous dishes for those seeking a culinary exploration. And remember, a meal here always begins with an order of their delectable dumplings – because, well, why wouldn’t it?
P is for Pink Bellies and Palmira
This Vietnamese comfort food spot in Downtown Charleston is a must-try! Though everything on the menu is delicious, first-timers should definitely start with the dumplings and the OG garlic noodles (with an egg!). And don’t forget the fish sauce brussel sprouts – they’re simply melt-in-your-mouth amazing. Be sure to make reservations, as the space is quite small.
Palmira Barbecue has recently been named the South’s Best New Barbecue Joint of 2024 by Southern Living Magazine. Their menu, especially the beef cheeks, is a must-try. Be sure to get there early to avoid missing out!
Q is for Queen Street Grocery and Queology
Don’t judge a book by its cover! This unassuming sandwich shop might not look like much from the outside, but it’s a local favorite for a reason. Some days, the line stretches out the door! While I can’t personally vouch for their salads, I’m a die-hard fan of their sandwiches – they never disappoint. If you’re craving a delicious sandwich, this is the place to be.
We all know the South loves its BBQ, but there’s always room for one more! This place serves up some seriously delicious chicken and ribs, so if you’re looking for your next BBQ fix, give them a try. You won’t regret it!.
R is for R kitchen and Rancho Lewis
This restaurant has two locations, both offering the same high-quality food and service. However, I have a personal preference for the West Ashley spot. Reservations are essential, especially since the menu is a surprise – but don’t let that deter you! It’s all part of the experience.
While this may be the final barbecue spot on our list, Charleston boasts many more delicious options for those seeking smoky flavors. Lewis Barbecue, a renowned establishment, has expanded its culinary offerings with a sister restaurant that promises a unique dining experience. As the pitmaster describes it, this new venture is a delightful fusion of “border food” and “cowboy cookin’.” Prepare your taste buds for a culinary adventure where Mexican flavors meet the heart and soul of Texas-style barbecue.

This Indian restaurant in Mount Pleasant serves incredible food that you absolutely must try. The menu is extensive, so you’ll definitely want to come back again and again to explore all the delicious options. They have an amazing selection of naan breads too! Since the restaurant is small, I highly recommend making reservations.

Looking for authentic British fish and chips in Charleston? Head to the North Charleston location, home of the original owner. This larger space offers plenty of seating and is a great lunch option while exploring the city. Keep in mind, the fish and chips are so popular they often sell out!
This Mount Pleasant restaurant offers a unique take on Mediterranean cuisine. The menu features a range of delicious options, including lamb porterhouse and guinea hen. However, the standout dish for me is the Greek frites – I’m a big fan of anything with truffle!
U is for Uncork and Uptown Social
This charming wine restaurant is perfect for enjoying a glass of wine and some small plates, whether you’re downtown for a show or just getting off work. You won’t be disappointed!
This bar is a fantastic spot for a fun night out. They offer delicious drinks and tasty snacks.They also have rooftop seating which on a lovely summer evening would be lovely.
V is for Verns and Ville Sainte Bistro
Located in the heart of downtown, this restaurant offers a diverse menu of American cuisine, including vegan options, and is known for its excellent cocktails. The seasonal menu is complemented by special events featuring guest chefs throughout the year, providing a unique and exciting dining experience.
This is a charming French restaurant located in Mount Pleasant. Offering a taste of France in the neighborhood, the restaurant features a daily changing menu and a wonderful wine selection.
W is for Wild Olive and Weltons Tiny Bakeshop
This restaurant offers a rustic-chic dining experience featuring a simple menu of artisanal Italian dishes and a curated wine list. Although it may require a drive depending on your location, the journey is well worth it for the exceptional cuisine.
This charming little bakeshop specializes in natural leavened breads and pastries made with locally sourced ingredients. Don’t let its small size fool you – the pastries are definitely worth a try! Fun fact: they were even a guest chef at Jackrabbit Filly for a “Ramen with Friends” event, and the food was delicious!
X is for Xo Brasserie and Xiao Bao Biscuit
This upscale Chinese restaurant specializes in Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine. The dumplings are a must-try—order one of each! Don’t be intimidated by the whole lobster; it’s as delicious as it is impressive.

Located in West Ashley, this fresh Mexican restaurant is a must-try. It’s known for its healthy menu and signature mason jar margaritas.
This place is a must-visit for sandwich lovers! They specialize in Philly-style sandwiches like cheesesteaks and Italian hoagies. I’ve tried several sandwiches here, and they’ve all been delicious.
